Washington: The United States and Germany have said that Russia’s military gathering near the Ukrainian border posed an immediate and major threat to European security and that any intervention would have dire consequences. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and German Foreign Minister Annalena Barbock tried to express an opinion on the Russian issue after a meeting in Washington on Wednesday. “Both Germany and the United States see Russia’s actions towards Ukraine as an immediate and major challenge to peace and stability in Europe,” Blinken said.
The US Secretary of State said, ‘We condemn the military gathering of Russia on the border of Ukraine. We also condemn Russia’s sharp rhetoric because it is spreading the false impression that Ukraine is provoking. Clearly and if Russia violates the sovereignty of Ukraine it will have dire consequences.’

A week before the Blinken-Barbock meeting, US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation. Biden also spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday. “The fundamental question is whether Russia is serious about diplomacy, does it want to de-escalate tensions,” Blinken said. Let us see what happens in the next few weeks.
The Biden administration is trying to build an international consensus for action against Russia, and for this Germany’s support is necessary. Joining Germany, Europe’s largest economic country, will help America take steps against Russia.
