Srinagar: Five Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday. An army soldier was martyred. police gave this information.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Hajin village of Rajpura in Pulwama district after receiving information about the presence of militants, a police official said. He said the operation turned into an encounter as the terrorists opened fire on the security forces. The security forces also gave a befitting reply to the firing.
In the initial firing, a jawan was injured, who died during treatment at the hospital, the official said. They sent additional forces to the spot and five terrorists were killed in the encounter.
Kashmir Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said that the slain terrorists were related to Lashkar-e-Taiba and one of them was Nishaj Lone alias Tibet, the district commander of the organisation.
He said one of the slain terrorists was a Pakistani but his identity is yet to be ascertained. Kumar said the operation was a “huge success” for the security forces.
