Dhaka: At least 17 people, including a child, died from an explosion in six air conditioners simultaneously due to a gas leak in a mosque on the outskirts of Dhaka (Bangladesh) capital Dhaka. And 20 others were injured. Officials of the fire service gave this information on Saturday.
The explosions occurred during the Namaz at around 9 pm on Friday night at the Betul Salat Mosque located in an urban area on the banks of the Narayanganj River. According to media reports, twenty-five Namazi were seriously injured in the blast. Dr. Samantha Lal Sen, Head of Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said that a minor boy died on Friday while 11 namaz died during treatment on Saturday.
According to ‘Dhaka Tribune’ news, 17 people, including a seven-year-old child, died at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, while about 20 people are undergoing treatment at the hospital. Superintendent of Police of Narayanganj Mohammad Zayedul Alam said that if any evidence of negligence is found in the investigation, action will be taken. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed concern about the incident and issued instructions to ensure all possible medical care for the victims.
Dr. Samantha Lal Sen said that 20 other people are currently being treated in the unit, but their condition is very serious as more than 90 percent of their body is burnt. He said that almost all have been burnt internally. He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called him this morning and asked the injured people and instructed to ensure all possible medical care for them.
