The mythology of Maa Shailputri
It was a long time ago when Prajapati Daksha organized a huge yagya. Daksha invited all the gods to this yagya, but did not invite his daughter Sati and husband Lord Shankar to the yagya. Sati got restless to go to the yagya organized by her father. On this Lord Shiva told Sati that if Prajapati has not invited us to the Yagya, then it is not appropriate to go there. But after seeing the insistence of Sati, Shiva gave her permission to go to the yagya. When Sati reached home, her sisters took a dig at her in many ways. Along with this, Lord Shankar was also despised. Daksha also said derogatory words towards him. This caused great sorrow to Sati. Saddened by this humiliation, Sati gave her life by jumping in the havan. On this Lord Shiva appeared in the Yagya Bhumi and destroyed everything. The next birth of Sati took place in Devraj Himalaya. She was named Shailputri because of her birth in the Himalayas.
