New Delhi: New Delhi is all set to host the G20 summit, a prestigious international forum of major economies, on September 9 and 10. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called the summit a historic event and said that most of the international leaders will participate in it. More than 40 foreign dignitaries, including US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and French President Emmanuel Macron, are expected to attend the summit.
The capital city has made elaborate security arrangements for the summit and declared a holiday for all government offices, banks, and schools from September 8 to September 10. The airport authorities have also canceled about 160 flights during the event.
The foreign guests have booked over 3,500 hotel rooms in various luxury hotels in Delhi and Gurugram. Some of the hotels where the world leaders will stay are Ashoka, Taj Palace, ITC Maurya, Shangri-La, Le Meridien, The Lalit, The Leela, Imperial and Oberoi.
The G20 summit will provide an opportunity for the leaders to discuss a range of global issues, such as climate change, economic recovery, health security, and regional conflicts. One of the key topics on the agenda will be the situation in Ukraine, where Russia has been accused of military aggression.
Some of the countries that have confirmed their presence at the summit are the US, UK, France, Canada, Turkey, South Korea, Australia, and Bangladesh. China’s President Xi Jinping is also likely to attend the meeting and stay at the Taj Mahal Hotel with a large entourage. However, some of the countries that have not yet announced their participation are Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Mexico, Japan, Italy, Germany, Indonesia, Brazil and Argentina.
Apart from the G20 members, some guest countries have also been invited to the summit. These include the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bangladesh, Egypt and Mauritius.
