New Delhi: Today is the 47th day of the farmers’ movement, bringing back the new farm reform laws of the Modi government. Other applications related to the farmers’ movement, including the repeal of the new agricultural law, were heard in the Supreme Court. Chief Justice SA Bobde (CJI SA Bobde) told the government that we are disappointed with the way the process is going. We do not know what the government is talking to the farmers. The CJI bluntly told the government that you will stop the agricultural laws or we should take action? The Supreme Court has asked the government to form a committee. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that the names will be handed over by tomorrow. In this case, today’s hearing ended without passing the order.

On January 8, there was talk of eighth round with the farmers’ government, but no solution could be found in this conversation as the Center refused to repeal the controversial law. Now the ninth round is to be held on 15 January. Meanwhile, the farmer leaders said that they are ready to fight till the last breath and their ‘return home’ will be only after ‘return of law’.

Updates of the hearing in the Supreme Court on the farmers movement and agricultural laws:

  • Chief Justice SA Bobde said that we are not happy with the way the government is handling the case. We do not know what you did before passing the law. The last hearing also said about the conversation, what is happening?
  • The court said, ‘We are not experts in farmer affairs, will you stop these laws or should we take steps. Things are constantly getting worse, people are dying and sitting in the cold. Who is taking care of food and water there? ‘
  • The CJI said, ‘We do not want to take anyone’s blood on our hands. But we cannot refuse anyone to perform. We cannot take our criticism that we are in favor of someone and against the other.
  • The Chief Justice said that you are unable to find a solution. People are dying Are committing suicide. We do not know why women and old people are also sitting. Well, we are going to make a committee. If someone wants to say this, then say it.
  • The Chief Justice said that we are not talking about withdrawal of law, we are asking how you are handling it. We do not want to hear whether this matter is resolved in the court or not. All we want is whether you can solve this matter by negotiation. If you wanted, you could have said that you will not implement this law until the issue is resolved.
  • The Supreme Court said, ‘We are apprehensive that someday there (Singhu border) violence may erupt. After this Salve said that there should be at least assurance that the movement would be postponed. All will go before the committee. The CJI said that this is what we want, but everything cannot be done by one order. We will not say that no one agitates. You can say that do not do it at that place.
  • Solicitor General Tushar Mehta has said that a large number of farmer organizations consider the law beneficial. On this, the Chief Justice said that no one has come before us who would say so. Therefore, we do not want to go on it. If a large number of people feel that the law is beneficial, then tell the committee. You tell me whether we will ban the law or not. Otherwise we will apply.
  • AG KK Venugopal told the court- ‘2000 farmers have already entered into agreements with private parties. Now in such a situation, they will have a huge loss by banning agricultural laws. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said- ‘The government is considering every aspect of the problems of the farmers. You say that the government is not handling the matter properly, a very harsh remark. On this, the CJI said- ‘This is the most factual statement given by us in today’s hearing.’
  • The CJI said, ‘How did such important laws pass through voice vote in Parliament. If the government is serious, then it should call a joint session of Parliament. We are proposing to form a committee. At the same time, we are also considering ordering not to implement the law till the next order.
  • Now the committee will tell whether the law is in the interest of the people or not. Now this matter will be heard again tomorrow, a decision can be taken on the committee tomorrow itself.
