Geneva: The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning regarding 2 cough serums. The WHO has warned about the cough syrup of Noida-based Indian pharmaceutical company Marion Biotech and said that two cough syrups made by Marion Biotech should not be used for children in Uzbekistan. Issuing a warning on Wednesday, WHO said that these medical products i.e. cough syrup manufactured by Marion Biotech are such that they completely fail to meet the quality standards or specifications.

According to the news agency ANI, WHO issued an alert on its website saying that it refers to two medical product substandard (contaminated) products. These two products are AMBRONOL Syrup and DOK-1 Max Syrup. The makers of both products are Marion Biotech (MARION BIOTECH PVT. LTD). To date, the manufacturer of the company has not provided a guarantee to WHO on safety due to which an alert has been issued on the quality of these products.

Clouds of crisis over the company
It is worth noting that recently there have been reports of the death of children in Uzbekistan after taking cough medicine, after which the Noida-based Pharma Marion Biotech is in trouble. According to WHO, laboratory analysis of cough syrup samples performed by the National Quality Control Laboratories of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan found that both products contained significant amounts of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol as contaminants.

The United Nations health agency WHO has issued an alert saying that these substandard products are unsafe and their use, especially in children, can cause serious illness or death. In fact, on December 22, Uzbekistan alleged that 18 children had died there after consuming medicines manufactured by Marion Biotech Company, after which a series of investigations started in India regarding the company’s products. The Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration Department also canceled the production license of Marion Biotech Company, which was involved in the death of 18 children in Uzbekistan.

Health minister bans manufacturing of medicines
Gautam Buddha Nagar Drug Inspector Vaibhav Babbar said that we have suspended the production license of Marion Biotech Company after the company “did not provide sufficient documents, also show cause notices by the state licensing authority on the basis of the documents asked during the inspection was given. Let us tell you that last month, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had said that in view of reports of contamination in cough syrup Dok1 Max, all manufacturing activities of the Noida-based pharma company have been stopped.
