Wagh Bakri Tea Group executive director Parag Desai dies after stray dog attack

Ahmedabad: Parag Desai, the executive director of Wagh Bakri Tea Group, one of the largest tea companies in India, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday night at a private hospital in Ahmedabad. He was 49 years old. Desai was brutally attacked by a pack of stray dogs outside his residence on ISKCON Ambli Road on October 15, when he was trying to shoo them away during his morning walk. He suffered a severe head injury after falling down due to the dog bites.

According to a report by Ahmedabad Mirror, Desai was rushed to a nearby hospital by his family members, who were alerted by the security guard of his house. He was later shifted to Zydus Hospital for brain surgery, as he had developed a brain hemorrhage. However, he could not survive the operation and passed away around 11 p.m. on Sunday.

Wagh Bakri Tea Group announced the tragic news of Desai’s demise on its official Instagram account, saying, “With deep sorrow, we are saddened to announce the tragic demise of our beloved Parag Desai.” The post also expressed condolences to his wife Vidisha, daughter Parisha, and other family members.

Desai was the son of Rashesh Desai, the managing director of Wagh Bakri Tea Group, which has a legacy of over 100 years and sells more than 45 million kg of tea annually. Desai joined the family business in 1997 and was instrumental in expanding its presence across India and abroad. He was also involved in various social and philanthropic activities. His sudden death has shocked the tea industry and his well-wishers.
