New Delhi: The Office of the Vice President and the University Grants Commission (UGC) has justified the Delhi University on allegations of misappropriation of funds of Rs 29 lakh on two courses that have been closed since 2017. Asked to take action. According to the Expenditure Statement of the Finance Branch, Delhi University (DU) spent Rs 29 lakh between 2017-18 and 2019-20 for the MTech program in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.
Both courses were discontinued in 2014 and the final batch was released in 2017. The Central Vigilance Commission had registered four complaints in the matter and forwarded it to DU’s Chief Vigilance Officer for action. After a new complaint by RTI activist Anil Kumar, the Vice President’s Secretariat has written a letter to the Pro Vice Chancellor of Delhi University. The UGC has also asked the university to take appropriate steps in the matter soon. According to the information received from RTI, Rs 17.05 lakh was spent on the course in 2017-18 and Rs 12.07 lakh in 2018-19.
