
New Delhi: Voting is now over for the third phase of the Uttar Pradesh and Punjab assembly elections. In Uttar Pradesh, 59.93 percent voting (for the third phase) has been done till 5 pm, while in Punjab 64.27 percent of votes have been cast till this time. Final data is yet to come.
During the voting, there were also reports of EVMs getting damaged at many places in the UP. which were later corrected. Polling in both states remained peaceful at most places.
On the other hand, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has alleged that both BJP and Akali Dal are taking support of Dera Sacha Sauda in the state elections. In both the states of UP and Punjab, big leaders also exercised their vote. In UP, where SP chief Akhilesh Yadav along with his wife Dimple Yadav cast their votes, in Punjab CM Channi, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Badal family, Bhagwant Mann, and Captain Amarinder cast their votes at their respective polling stations.

In Punjab, a multi-cornered contest is expected between the ruling Congress, AAP, the SAD-BSP alliance, the BJP-PLC-SAD (United), and the United Samaj Morcha. Prominent faces contesting elections in Punjab are CM Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, Aam Aadmi Party chief ministerial faces Bhagwant Mann, former CMs Amarinder Singh and Parkash Singh Badal, and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal. At the same time, a total of 627 candidates are in the fray in the third phase of elections in UP.
In UP, polling was held in Hathras, Firozabad, Etah, Kasganj, Mainpuri, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Etawah, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Hamirpur, and Mahoba on Sunday. The competition of the ruling BJP here is mainly from the SP alliance, Congress, and BSP.
