New Delhi: The Government of India on Monday appointed Vinay Mohan Kwatra as the new Foreign Secretary of India. Kwatra is currently the Ambassador of India to Nepal. He will take charge of Harsh Vardhan Shringla on May 1.
Who is Vinay Mohan Kwatra?
Vinay Mohan Kwatra is an Indian diplomat and current Ambassador to Kathmandu, Nepal. Prior to this, he has served as ambassador to France and Nepal. Apart from this, he has served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs and Prime Minister’s Office of India. He has served as Minister (Commerce) at the Embassy of India in Washington DC from May 2010 to July 2013.
Kwatra headed the Policy Planning and Research Division of the Ministry of External Affairs between July 2013 and October 2015. He then served as the head of the Americas Division at the Ministry of State, where he oversaw India’s relations with the United States and Canada.
Kwatra has held various positions in India’s missions abroad and in India. He has about 32 years of experience in a wide variety of assignments.
