Pristina: Kosova MPs elected Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu on Sunday as the country’s new President. His term will be five years. Vajosa is the seventh President of the country. She is the second female leader of the country. In the third phase of voting in a two-day special session of the country’s 120-member parliament, 71 votes were cast in favor of Vajosa, while 11 votes were declared invalid.
The two opposition parties and the Serb Minority Party boycotted the vote. Vajosa temporarily took over as president after the resignation of former President Hashim Thaci in November last year. Thaci resigned after facing war crimes charges in a special court based in The Hague. Vajosa has the support of the Left Self-Determination Movement, which won a major victory in the early February 14 election. The party now has three top posts – President, Speaker and Prime Minister.
