New Delhi: Amidst the election fervor in Jammu and Kashmir, the Modi government has made a significant decision regarding the Union Territory of Ladakh. Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that five new districts will be created in Ladakh, marking a historic development.
- Zanskar and Drass: These two districts will be situated in the Kargil region, known for its rugged terrain and rich cultural heritage.
- Sham, Nubra, and Changthang: These districts will find their home in the Leh region, encompassing breathtaking landscapes, high-altitude deserts, and pristine lakes.
Until now, Ladakh comprised only two districts: Leh and Kargil. However, the Home Ministry’s decision expands this to a total of seven districts, addressing a long-standing demand from social and political organizations across Leh, Ladakh, and Kargil divisions. This move aims to enhance governance and bring development opportunities to every corner of Ladakh.
For the first time since independence, Ladakh witnesses an increase in its district count, signaling a commitment to administrative efficiency and progress. The people of Ladakh can now look forward to improved services and localized governance, thanks to these newly carved districts.
