United Nations: The United Nations General Assembly on Thursday approved a resolution praising the progress in peace talks between the Government of Afghanistan and the Taliban. At the same time, there has also been an urge by the Taliban, Al Qaida, Islamic State and its associated groups to intensify efforts to prevent terrorist attacks. The General Assembly has 193 members.

A total of 130 votes were cast in favor of the motion while 59 member countries did not participate. Russia opposed this proposal while China (Pakistan) and Belarus (China) remained absent. The 15-page proposal titled “Situations in Afghanistan” covered the topics of peace and reconciliation, democracy, rule of law, good governance, human rights, action for drug control, social and economic development and regional cooperation. is.

While welcoming progress in the Afghan negotiations, including the agreement reached on December 2 regarding the rules for the negotiations, the proposal also condemned “continued violence” in the region. Afghanistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations Adila Raj regretted that it was not implemented unanimously despite the strong support of his government for the proposal.

Raj said that the goal of the government, Afghanistan’s neighbors and the General Assembly is to identify the Taliban as a political party. “Our goal for peace and prosperity in Afghanistan is to see the Taliban as a political party in the country,” he said.
