Kampala: Uganda’s Electoral Commission said on Saturday that President Yoweri Museveni won the election for the sixth time. His tenure will be five years and with this, his rule will be extended for four decades. However, his main rival Bobi Wine rejected them, alleging rigging in the election results.

Officials too, however, could not clearly state how the election results were collected amidst the internet collapse. The Election Commission said that Museveni got 58 percent of the votes and Vine got 34 percent of the votes.

The 76-year-old Museveni first took office in 1986. Vine, on the other hand, requested the international community to intervene, claiming victory. He said that the soldiers have surrounded his house from all sides and he is not being allowed to move out. There was fierce pre-election violence in this East African country.

Vine and other candidates were beaten and tortured. More than 50 people died in it. Addressing the nation, Museveni said, “I think this is the most honestly contested election since 1962.”
