Jerusalem: Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are uniting against common enemy Iran. For the first time since the creation of Israel in 1948, an Israeli prime minister has visited the UAE on an official visit. Israel’s Prime Minister Naftali Bennett arrived in Abu Dhabi on Sunday evening. On Monday, he will meet with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.
It is being claimed in some media reports that after this visit of Israeli Prime Minister Naftali-Bennet, Saudi Arabia can also soon make diplomatic relations with Israel. Officials of the Israeli prime minister said Naftali Bennett and Mohamed bin Zayed would hold talks on strengthening ties between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. The two will especially talk about economic and regional issues. It is believed that during this visit of Bennett, major agreements can be made at the military level.
This meeting between the UAE and Israel is taking place in the midst of the ongoing talks on the nuclear deal between the world’s big powers and Iran. Both the UAE and Israel do not want Iran to have access to nuclear power. Israel has already said it will prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power. At the same time, Iran says that its nuclear program is purely for peaceful purposes.
What will be gained from Bennett’s visit?
Talks were going on between Israel and the UAE since last year. It is believed that during this visit of Bennett, major agreements can be made at the military level. The eyes of both the countries are also on Iran trying to become a nuclear power. Israel can also help UAE a lot with intelligence. Soon Saudi Arabia can also join Israel because every Arab country considers Iran as the biggest threat to itself. There are Sunni Muslims in all countries of the Gulf, while Iran is a Shia-majority country.
However, there was no immediate confirmation from the UAE regarding the visit of the Israeli Prime Minister. The eyes of both the countries are on Iran. Both do not want Iran to be equipped with the power of an atomic bomb. The UAE recognized Israel only last year. It is believed that soon Saudi Arabia can also recognize Israel. Last year, the UAE and Israel formalized the relationship through US mediation. This is known as the Abrahamic Pact. This agreement has led to many deals ranging from tourism and business to cutting-edge technology.
