Geneva: Five people were killed when a glider and a small plane crashed in the Swiss Alps. Officials are trying to ascertain if there was any connection between the two accidents.
The police gave this information on Monday. Police in Graubünden canton said they were informed by Switzerland’s air rescue service on Saturday night that the glider crashed in the Bivio area near the Italian border, killing the pilot.
Due to bad weather at an altitude of about 2,700 meters (8,860 ft), it was not immediately possible to conduct further rescue operations at the crash site. When rescue operations began on Sunday, rescue workers found the wreckage of the small plane about a kilometer away, police said.

Along with the pilot, a man, woman and child were also on board the Robin DR400 aircraft. He said all the people on board the plane were killed. Both planes took off from Switzerland’s airspace on Saturday. There was no immediate word on the identity of the dead.
