Wellington: Northern Territory of New Zealand received a powerful Earthquake in the deep sea on Wednesday, causing tsunami warnings in some parts of the region. The US Geological Agency reported that the earthquake measured 7.7 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was located 10 kilometers (six miles) south-east of Loyalty Island.
The American Tsunami Warning Center issued tsunami warnings ranging from 0.3 to one meter (1 to 3.3 feet) for Vanuatu and Fiji. A tsunami warning was issued and then canceled for American Samoa.
