Gangtok: In a heartbreaking incident from Pakyong district, Sikkim, four army personnel lost their lives in a severe road accident on Thursday. The tragedy occurred when their vehicle plunged into a deep gorge.
The army vehicle was en route from Pedong in West Bengal to Zuluk in Sikkim along the historic Silk Route. The car lost control during the journey and fell into a gorge 700 to 800 feet deep. Indian Army officials have confirmed the unfortunate deaths of four soldiers in this accident.

The accident took place at Vertical Veer near Dalopchand Dara, close to the Rhenock Rongli Highway, a well-known segment of the Silk Route. The vehicle, part of the Enroute Mission Command Unit from Binaguri, West Bengal, slipped off the road and tumbled into the gorge.
Identification of the Deceased
The soldiers who tragically lost their lives have been identified as:
- Driver Pradeep Patel from Madhya Pradesh
- Craftsman W Peter from Manipur
- Naik Gursev Singh from Haryana
- Subedar K Thangapandi from Tamil Nadu
All the deceased were part of the Enroute Mission Command Unit stationed in Binaguri, West Bengal. As of now, no official statement has been released by the Indian Army regarding this incident.
