New Delhi: Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is going to enter the compact SUV segment of the country. The company said on Tuesday that it will enter the market with the Urban Cruiser in the upcoming festive season. This less than 4-meter model is based on Maruti Suzuki India’s Vitara Brezza. Through the Urban Cruiser, the company will present a challenge in such a segment, in which the sales figures are better despite the challenging business environment. Apart from the Vitara Brezza, this model will compete with Hyundai’s upcoming Venue, Tata Nexon, and Kia Motors and Nissan.
TKM said that the Urban Cruiser will be for consumers who want something more than compact SUVs. The company said that it will offer a compact SUV in the festive season. The company’s intention is to take advantage of the growing demand for compact SUVs in India.
Naveen Soni, senior vice-president (sales and service), TKM, said, “With a customer-first approach, TKM is committed to fulfilling customer aspirations with new products.” Toyota Urban Cruiser is another effort in this direction.
This will be the second car in the Toyota-Suzuki partnership in India. These two Japanese companies formed a partnership in 2018 that together they will develop the supply chain and technology for the global market.
