New Delhi: This time the Winter Session of Parliament has been postponed in view of the Corona Epidemic (Covid-19). According to the information received, the winter session will be merged with the upcoming Monsoon Session. It is being said that this step has been taken in view of the rapid spread of the Corona epidemic in Delhi.
It is noteworthy that last September, the monsoon session of Parliament has adjourned indefinitely about eight days ahead of its scheduled time. Despite the short duration, 25 Bills were passed in both the Houses of Parliament during the session. Eight members of the Opposition were suspended for the rest of the session on Sunday due to commotion in the Rajya Sabha. Both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha worked for ten consecutive days.
The proceedings lasted for more than 23 hours
During the monsoon session starting from September 14, 10 sittings of the Lok Sabha were held without a break in which a total of 60 hours of proceedings were completed as compared to the prescribed 37 hours. Thus the proceedings of the House lasted an extra 23 hours from the scheduled time. Legislative work was completed in 68 percent of the time and non-legislative work in the remaining 32 percent of the session.
