New Delhi: The minimum temperature remained below normal in most parts of North India on Saturday. The Meteorological Department has forecast an increase in night temperature on Monday as the western monsoon moves towards the north-western part of the country. The minimum temperature in the national capital was recorded at 8.5 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature was recorded at 24.6 degrees Celsius. Earlier on Friday, November was the coldest morning in Delhi in the last 14 years.
On the other hand, Delhi’s air quality remained in the “poor” category and the average air quality index during 24 hours was 251. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature was four degrees below normal. Kuldeep Srivastava, head of the meteorological department’s regional weather forecasting center, said the minimum temperature is expected to rise from Monday due to the impact of the western monsoon. Most parts of Rajasthan recorded a drop in minimum temperature on Saturday. In the plains, the minimum temperature in Churu was the lowest at 5.5 degrees Celsius. The night temperature in Mount Abu, the only hilly area of the state, was one degree Celsius.
The maximum and minimum temperatures in Punjab and Haryana also remained below normal. The meteorological department has forecast dry weather in both the states in the next few days. The maximum temperature in Chandigarh, the joint capital of the two states, was 22.2 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal. The maximum temperatures in Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala of Punjab were 22.2 degrees Celsius, 21.8 degrees Celsius and 23.3 degrees Celsius respectively, which is five degrees below normal.
The maximum temperature in Haryana’s Ambala was 21.9 degrees Celsius which is five degrees below normal while the maximum temperature in Hisar was 23 degrees Celsius, which is six degrees below normal. The maximum temperature recorded in Narnaul was 26.2 degrees Celsius. The weather in Uttar Pradesh remained dry on Saturday and is expected to remain so for the next three days. Himachal Pradesh is still cold and the meteorological department has forecast rain and snowfall in the state in the next few days. Manali, Kelong and Kalpa recorded temperatures below zero while Shimla recorded a low of 5.1 degrees Celsius.
