New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has ordered its registry to use small A-4 size papers instead of the large size legal papers used in filing petitions. The petition should be considered a representation. The purpose of this petition is to prevent waste of paper and to save the trees. The bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Pratik Jalan commended the petitioner for raising the issue and said that the High Court Rules Committee would consider the issue and an administrative decision would be taken.

The Bench directed the Registry to consider this petition filed on behalf of Advocate Namrata Mukim as a representation and to send it to the Committee. With this instruction, the bench disposed of the petition. In his petition, Mukim said that for filing a writ petition in the High Court, only one side of legal size emerald is currently used with double space printing and an internal margin of about four centimeters on top and left.

There is also talk of paying attention to the print arrangement on both sides
He said that this method of filing a petition is a waste of pages and suggested that A-4 pages should be used instead and prints should be provided on both sides to save paper.

The advocate also said that this method of filing a petition has also been adopted in the Supreme Court and the apex court had ordered on March 5 in this regard. Not only does it cost less but it is also environmentally friendly.

In the petition, he termed the use of one side of the legal size page as a ‘colonial practice’, which no longer needs to be carried.
