New Delhi: Mahindra launched its offroad lifestyle SUV Thar in August 2020. After this, in January 2023, the company launched the rear-wheel drive model. This model has also received a lot of love from customers. There is a constant demand for this car in the market.
Due to the increase in demand, the company has now decided to increase the price of this car. Apart from this, the company has also upgraded its entire lineup to BS6 Stage-II. Because of this also the cars price has increased.
The most popular variant of the Mahindra Thar, the LX diesel-manual hard-top rear-wheel drive, has seen the biggest price hike of Rs 1.05 lakh, while the base-spec AX (O) diesel-manual hard-top Rear-wheel drive has increased by Rs 55,000. The rest of the Thar lineup, which includes all 4 wheel drive variants and the petrol-automatic versions of the hard-top rear-wheel drive, have seen a price hike of Rs 28,200. The 4WD variant of the Thar has now priced between Rs 13.49 lakh to Rs 16.77 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, India).
Entry-level variant costlier by Rs 55,000
The entry-level variant of the Mahindra Thar has now become costlier by Rs 55,000, and the starting price of the Thar range is much higher than before. However, Mahindra is working on a new base-spec variant below the current AX (O) variant to further reduce the entry pricing of the Thar. It is not clear what features will be offered in this new base variant considering that the current base-spec AX (O) already lacks features.
Thar is available in two drive layouts
Mahindra Thar is available in two versions in India – rear-wheel drive and front-wheel drive. The rear-wheel drive variant comes with two powertrain options – a 2.0-liter turbocharged 150PS petrol engine mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and a 1.5-liter 115PS diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 4-wheel drive version is offered with two engine options – a 2.0-liter 150 PS turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-liter 130 PS diesel engine. Both these powertrain options are available with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.
