New Delhi: There is good news for telecom companies that soon they will get a complete spectrum of Dedicated Spectrum. With this, telecom consumers will also be able to get better quality services and will get rid of the problem of network disappearance or call drop while talking. In fact, the Ministry of Defense and the Department of Space have agreed to vacate Rs 61,000 crore of spectrum for 5G services. Auction of this spectrum will start from 1 March 2021.

ISRO seeks protection from 5G for satellite services
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended the auction of 300 MHz spectrum in the 3300-3600 MHz frequency band for 5G services. However, the Indian Navy is using 100 MHz spectrum for radar related services. At the same time, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has claimed for 25 MHz spectrum in the 3300-3600 MHz band. This leaves only 175 MHz of spectrum for telecom services. ISRO has agreed to vacate 25 MHz spectrum in the 3300-3600 MHz band. It has sought protection from 5G for satellite services.

Navy agreed to use the lower frequency band
The Navy has agreed to use 100 MHz in a lower frequency band. An official source said that this would make the entire 300 MHz spectrum available for telecom operators. This is the first set of spectrum identified by the government for 5G services in the country. Telecom operators are demanding 100 MHz of spectrum in the 3300-3600 band at a lower price. However, due to claims of Navy and ISRO, DoT was not able to make this spectrum available for auction. Now 300 MHz spectrum will be available to telecom companies after the consent of the Ministry of Defense.
