Tata Sons appoints Ilkar Ayci as CEO and MD of Air India

Mumbai: Tata Sons has started taking steps towards change in Air India. Tata Sons on Monday appointed Ilker Ayci as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Air India (Air India CEO and MD). It is being told that before the appointment of Ilkar IC, a meeting of the Air India Board was also held on Monday afternoon. Tata Sons have said in a press release that, the Board has approved the appointment after deliberation. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran was a special invitee to the board meeting.

51-year-old K Ilkar was appointed chairman of Turkish Airlines in 2015. It is said that IC has a different identity in the aviation industry. He has led Turkish Airlines to its current success during his tenure at Turkish Airlines. It is a pleasure to welcome Ilkar to the Tata Group, the press release said. He will take Air India to a new era.

It was officially handed over to Tata Sons on 27 January 2022. The Tata group had in October last year entered into a bid with Air India Express to acquire a 50 percent stake in Air India and AISATS. It is worth noting that Tata Group’s holding company Tales Pvt Ltd on October 8, 2021, had made a bid of Rs 18,000 crore for the acquisition of debt-ridden Air India.
