Dehradun: In the distressed Chamoli district of Uttrakhand, 3 bodies and 2 bodies were later recovered from Tapovan Tunnel in the early hours of Sunday. Thus far 5 bodies have been recovered from inside the tunnel. Now an effort is being made to identify the dead bodies. Significantly, the number of people killed in the February 7 floods in the Rishiganga Valley of Chamoli has now increased to 43, while 164 others are still being reported missing.

These missing people include 25 to 35 people trapped in Tapovan tunnel who were working there during the disaster. A joint rescue operation has been carried out by the Army, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police for the last one week to evacuate those trapped in the tunnel.

Last Friday, where a dead body was found from the tunnel. Out of the 204 missing persons, the bodies of 38 people were recovered while two people have been saved alive. It is known that the relief work is still going on. After five bodies have been recovered, this figure has now reached 43.

Significantly, the work of removing debris and mud from Tapovan Tunnel is still going on. At the same time, some people are still feared trapped in this tunnel. After losing contact with several villages, the ITBP has set up relief camps there and people are also being provided with essential things. Let us tell you that due to the sudden flood in Rishiganga and Dhauliganga rivers due to millions of metric tons of snow fell from the mountain in Rishiganga Valley on February 7. The 2 MW Rishiganga hydropower project was completely destroyed while the 520 MW Tapovan-Vishnugad project suffered major damage and people working in its tunnel are stuck there.
