Kabul: Taliban has made a deal with United Arab Emirates (UAE) for an airport operation in Afghanistan. The Taliban’s deputy minister for Transport and Civil Aviation, Ghulam Jelani Wafa, signed the deal on Tuesday.
Under the deal, Abu Dhabi-based GAAC Corporation will manage the airports in Herat, Kabul, and Kandahar. The Taliban held talks with the UAE, Turkey, and Qatar for months about the operation of the airport, after which this decision was taken.
During the deal, Mulla Baradar said- ‘The security of the country is strong and the Islamic Emirate (the Taliban has named Afghanistan this) is ready to work with foreign investors.’ Baradar said- ‘With this agreement, all foreign airlines Will be able to start safe flights in Afghanistan.
Civil Aviation Minister Ghulam Jelani Wafa said- GAAC Corporation is a multinational company, which provides flight services in UAE. When the situation was not good for us, then the UAE provided technical support and repaired the terminal for free.
Last year there was a deal with Turkish and Qatari companies
Questions are also being raised on this deal because Qatar and Turkey were already in line to get the deal for the operation of the airport. In December 2021, Turkish and Qatari companies signed an agreement to operate airports in Balkh, Herat, Kandahar, and Khost provinces, including Kabul Airport.
