Taipei: Taiwan’s Defense Minister Chiu Kuo Cheng said that the Chinese army could make a ‘sudden intrusion’ into Taiwanese territories and we have to be alert for this. The Taiwanese Defense Minister has given this warning at a time when the tension in the Taiwan Strait has increased a lot. China’s army and navy are constantly engaged in intimidating Taiwan. China has stepped up its military activities around Taiwan in recent years, including almost daily air force incursions into the island’s air defense zone.

However, Taiwan has currently denied any activity by the Chinese military in its territory. Taiwan’s territory is 24 nautical miles (44.4 km) from the coast. Last year, a civilian drone was shot down in its border area.

Meanwhile, while addressing Taiwan’s Parliament, the Defense Minister said that the Chinese army can find an excuse to enter Taiwan’s territorial air and sea area. It is known that Taiwan is currently buying weapons on a large scale from America, due to which China is badly infuriated.

He told that the PLA (Chinese troops) can suddenly enter Taiwan and reach its territory, which is located 12 nautical miles from the coast. He said, “If I am making this statement this year, it means that they are preparing for it (infiltration).”

On the other hand, reacting to the statement of Taiwan’s Defense Minister, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said that we will take vigorous steps to protect our sovereignty and territorial integrity. So Taiwan responded by saying that ‘it will exercise its right of self-defense and will retaliate if Chinese forces enter its territory’.
