New Delhi: The Supreme Court has ordered that fugitive liquor businessman Vijay Mallya will have to appear in court on 5 October. The court has set a time of 2 pm for Mallya’s presence. In addition, the SC has also directed the Home Ministry to ensure the presence of Vijay Mallya.
Vijay Mallya, the owner of Kingfisher Airlines, has received a shock from the Supreme Court. On Monday, the court dismissed the review petition against Mallya in the contempt case. Mallya disobeyed a court order and transferred US $ 40 million to his children’s names. On which in May 2017, the Supreme Court held him guilty of contempt of court.
After this court decision, Mallya filed a review petition in the court, on which the bench of Justices UU Lalit and Ashok Bhushan reserved its decision after hearing it through video conferencing on August 27. Today this petition was dismissed.
Two major charges against Mallya
In the hearing on August 27, the court had said that there are two major allegations against Vijay Mallya, the first being that he did not disclose his assets. The second tried to hide assets incorrectly. In this case, the court had asked its registry in June to explain why Mallya’s reconsideration petition was not listed before the court concerned in the last three years. The court had asked the registry to provide all the information including the names of the officials who had seen the file related to the petition in the last three years.
Vijay Mallya is in Britain
Mallya, currently accused in a bank loan fraud case of more than 9 thousand crores, is currently in the UK. The apex court gave the order in 2017 on a petition by a group of banks led by State Bank of India. The petition stated that Mallya had allegedly “violated” various judicial orders and transferred US $ 40 million from the British company Diageo to his children’s account.
