New Delhi: A hearing was held in the Supreme Court today i.e. Wednesday on a petition challenging the bulldozer action on alleged illegal settlements on railway land near Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi and Idgah Mosque in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. During the hearing on the petition, the Supreme Court stayed the bulldozer action near Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi for 10 days. Not only this, while hearing the petition, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Central Government and the Railways. Now the matter will be heard after a week.
The petitioner had claimed that people have been living on the land from where the railway was removing the encroachment for more than 100 years. On this basis, a demand was made to stop the action. The petitioner told the court that a lot of encroachments have already been removed by the Railways. Now only 70-80 houses are left, their demolition should be stopped. The apex court stayed the action with immediate effect and asked the Railways to respond. However, no one was present on behalf of the Railways in the Supreme Court during the hearing.
The railways had asked the people who were allegedly living on the railway land along the Mathura-Vrindavan railway line to vacate the land. Senior advocate Prashant Sen, appearing in the apex court on behalf of the petitioner, told the court that 200 houses are to be demolished in this action and 3000 people will be affected by it. They have no other place to live and have been living here for more than 100 years. The matter was going on in the Allahabad High Court, but the hearing could not be held on Monday due to the strike, in which case the petitioners had reached the Supreme Court.
