Jammu: At least 12 people were killed and 20 others injured in a stampede due to a huge crowd of devotees at the famous Mata Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu and Kashmir. At least four people among the dead are residents of Uttar Pradesh (UP News), including a woman.
The deceased have been identified as Shweta Singh, 35, wife of Vikram Singh from Ghaziabad, UP, Dharamvir Singh, 35, resident of Salapur, Saharanpur, Vineet Kumar, 38, son of Vikrampal Singh, a resident of Saharanpur, and 30-year-old Satprakash Singh, a resident of Gorakhpur. Son Pratap Singh.
Giving this information on Saturday, the officials said that the stampede took place outside the sanctum sanctorum near gate number 3. 20 more people were injured and most of them are undergoing treatment at Mata Vaishno Devi Narayan Superspeciality Hospital, officials said.
Officials said that at the beginning of the new year, a stampede broke out due to the huge crowd of devotees who had come to visit the temple. Senior officials and representatives of the Shrine Board are present on the spot. Officials said the temple was open and devotees were offering prayers till the final reports came.
Treatment of injured in Narayana Hospital
Along with this, Dr. Gopal Dutt has told that the situation is still not clear here about the total number of injured. At present, the post-mortem of the dead will be done. The injured are being treated at the local Narayana Hospital here. It is being told that the scuffle started in Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan around 2.30 pm.
