Mumbai: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah will face each other in the field for the post of ICC Chief. According to The Telegraph, both BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah want to become the next ICC chief. The newspaper has claimed that there will be a direct contest between Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah. Significantly, the current Chief of the ICC, Greg Barclay, does not want to extend his term further.
According to the newspaper, BCCI wants an Indian to be the ICC chief during the ICC World Cup, 2023. Remind you that Sharad Pawar was the Chief of the ICC during the ICC ODI World Cup 2011 when India won the World Cup under the captaincy of MS Dhoni (MS Dhoni Captain WC 2011). It is worth noting that India will once again be the host of the ICC ODI World Cup, 2023. This is the reason, BCCI wants only an Indian to become the ICC Chief.
Greg Barclay does not want to extend his term for this reason
According to the rules, the appointment of an ICC chief is for 2 years, which cannot be extended beyond 6 years. Currently, Greg Barclay is the President of the ICC. He took the position in December of 2020. It is being told that he does not want to extend his tenure in view of his professional commitment.
