Motilal Vora has been included in the old stalwarts and has been associated with the Congress in organizations and governments for 50 years. Vora, who was the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, began his political journey in the 1960s and was initially associated with a socialist-minded party, but then came to the Congress in 1970 and held high positions in the Congress party and the state government. Later also reached the Rajya Sabha. Vora also got involved in controversies but remained one of the favorites of the Gandhi family for some reasons.
Vora joined the Congress in 1970 with the help of Prabhat Tiwari and Pandit Kishori Lal Shukla. Within a decade of that, he had become very close to the Gandhi family. His skill and victory in Madhya Pradesh thrice in a decade were special reasons. In 1983, Vora was made a cabinet minister in the Indira Gandhi government. After this, Vora also joined the Rajiv Gandhi government when he was made a cabinet minister as a member of the Rajya Sabha.
Support of Rahul Gandhi
Two elections ago, when the Congress was looking for a face for the post of Prime Minister, Vora openly advocated making Rahul Gandhi the face of the Prime Minister’s post within the party. Vora was one of the few leaders who supported Rahul’s handing over the command of the party. He always kept his equation with the Gandhi family, and it was because of this that Vora was in support of Rahul every time, although the party made Manmohan Singh the Prime Minister twice.

Motilal Vora has also been a special leader of the Congress in the sense that only three of the organizations named in the National Herald case, Vora held important positions. On 22 March 2002, Vora became chairman and MD in Associated Journals Limited, that is, AJL. Vora had held the post of treasurer in the All India Congress Committee involved as an accused in the National Herald case and in this case the name of the third institution Young Indian came, in which Vora was also a shareholder of 12 per cent.
