In this regard, the Indian Army said that in the Sindhara area of Poonch, security forces have killed four terrorists in a joint operation. The first encounter between the security forces took place around 11:30 pm last night following which drones with surveillance equipment were deployed.
According to the army, the encounter resumed this morning with heavy firing between security forces and terrorists. Indian Army Special Forces, Rashtriya Rifles, and Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel were part of the operation along with other forces. The terrorists killed in this operation are probably foreign terrorists and their identity is also being ascertained.
Significantly, on June 23 also, the security forces have got a big success in Jammu and Kashmir. In fact, on Friday, June 23, four terrorists were killed in Kupwara after a joint operation by the Indian Army and the police. According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the terrorists were trying to infiltrate here from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, after which the terrorists were killed during a joint operation.
According to the South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP), a total of 23,918 terrorists (including during infiltration) have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir since 1988, of which 1,193 were killed in the last 10 years (2013-2022). The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) reported that there were 1,708 terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir between 2014 and 2018, resulting in the death of 515 security personnel and 614 civilians. The MHA also said that there were 77 infiltration attempts in 2021 and 99 in 2020, with an average of 11 terrorists infiltrating Jammu and Kashmir every month. The last encounter took place on May 4, 2023, when security forces killed two terrorists in the Kreeri area of Baramulla district.
