Dubai: Saudi Arabia said on Saturday that it had intercepted a missile fired at the capital Riyadh and intercepted a drone targeting the southern province. Saudi Arabia has been blaming Yemen’s Houthi rebels for airstrikes in the country. The Saudi-led military coalition said Iran-backed Houthi rebels fired a ballistic missile toward Riyadh. In addition, three drones loaded with bombs were fired towards Jizan province.
A fourth drone was targeted targeting another southwestern city, and other drones are being monitored. There is no report of any casualty in it. There has been no statement from the Huti rebels regarding this attack. The attack has taken place in the midst of rapidly growing tension in West Asia. A day earlier, an Israeli vessel exploded in the Gulf of Oman. The explosion has once again raised concerns about the safety of ships on strategic waterways. Government Al Ekhbaria TV showed footage of something like an air blast in Riyadh.
People have also shared similar videos on social media. Saudi-led coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki said Hutis were trying to target civilians sequentially. Meanwhile, the US embassy in Riyadh has issued a warning to its citizens, and “they have been asked to be vigilant in the event of further attacks in the future”.
