A major accident was narrowly averted at Rourkela airstrip on Saturday when a chartered aircraft, which had taken off from Bhubaneswar, had to make an emergency landing just before touchdown. This resulted in a crash landing. A total of six people, including both pilots, were injured in the incident.

According to reports, the chartered flight belonged to ‘India One Air’ and had taken off from Bhubaneswar Airport. The aircraft was preparing to land at Rourkela airstrip when a technical malfunction forced the pilot to make an emergency crash landing. The aircraft is reportedly a 9-seater Charlie-208.

Six People Injured in the Accident

Four passengers and two crew members were injured in the accident. The injured pilots have been identified as Captain Naveen Kadanga and Co-pilot Tarun Srivastava. The injured passengers include Sushant Kumar Biswal, Anita Sahu, Sunil Agarwal, and Sabita Agarwal. All the injured were immediately admitted to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

No One in Critical Condition

Bhubaneswar Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan confirmed the incident, stating that all the injured are safe and none of them are in critical condition. He said that the aircraft made an emergency landing, resulting in injuries to some passengers and crew members, but relief and rescue operations were immediately launched.

Why Did the Plane Crash?

Odisha Transport Minister Bibhuti Jena also issued a statement on the incident, saying that it could have been a major tragedy, but fortunately, there was no loss of life. He said, “All the passengers on board the aircraft are safe. Initial investigations suggest that it was due to a technical or mechanical failure. A detailed investigation will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.”

Following the incident, flight operations at the airstrip were affected for some time. Administration and aviation officials arrived at the scene to assess the situation and initiated the process of moving the aircraft to a safe location. Aviation safety agencies will now investigate how the technical malfunction occurred during the flight and what steps can be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
