Rohit Sharma surpasses Virat Kohli in ICC ODI rankings, reaches sixth spot

New Delhi: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has climbed up to the sixth position in the latest ICC ODI rankings, leaving behind his teammate and former captain Virat Kohli for the first time. Rohit Sharma, who is also known as Hitman for his explosive batting, has gained four places in the rankings after his impressive performances in the ongoing World Cup.

Rohit Sharma has 719 points in the ODI rankings, while Virat Kohli has slipped to the ninth spot with 698 points. The top spot in the rankings is occupied by Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam, who has 837 points. He is followed by India’s young sensation Shubman Gill, who has 798 points. Gill has been one of the most consistent batsmen for India in the World Cup, scoring three centuries in four matches.

The other Indian batsman in the top 10 of the ODI rankings is KL Rahul, who is in the eighth position with 704 points. Rahul has also been in good form in the World Cup, scoring two half-centuries and a century. The top 10 of the ODI rankings also features New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, England’s Jonny Bairstow, Australia’s David Warner, and South Africa’s Quinton de Kock.

In the bowling rankings, Australia’s Josh Hazlewood remains at the top with 660 points. He is followed by New Zealand’s Trent Boult and India’s Mohammad Siraj, who have 648 and 645 points respectively. Siraj has been India’s leading wicket-taker in the World Cup, taking 12 wickets in four matches. He has also bowled with great pace and accuracy, troubling the opposition batsmen.

Rohit Sharma’s rise in the ODI rankings reflects his superb form in the World Cup, where he has led India to three wins out of four matches. He has scored 221 runs in the tournament so far, including a brilliant century against Pakistan and a match-winning knock of 85 against Afghanistan.
