New Delhi: Amid protests against the Canadian government’s decision to deport the country, there is news that the actual number is much less than the 700 reported in the media. Explain that these students have been threatened with deportation for allegedly submitting fake admission letters. Most of these students went to Canada during 2017-2019. Indian students facing the threat of deportation have got relief in this matter.
According to sources, after completing their studies, some of them obtained work permits, while others continued to study in Canada. India has been taking up this matter with the Canadian authorities, both in Canada and in New Delhi. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has also raised this matter with his Canadian counterpart.
Earlier Secretary (East), of the Ministry of External Affairs, had taken it up during his visit to Canada in April this year. He has met many of them at the Indian Consulate in Toronto, where most of the students live. The Canadian authorities were repeatedly urged to be fair and take a humane approach as the students were not at fault in this matter. It was also pointed out that there were loopholes in the Canadian system due to which visas were granted to the students and they were also allowed to enter Canada.
