Indore: Indian team’s experienced spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin made a new record in the Indore Test. Ashwin has gone past India’s former world champion captain Kapil Dev’s record in terms of taking the most wickets in international cricket as soon as he took 3 wickets while bowling in the third Test against Australia. Not only this, but he has also become the third bowler to get the most international wickets in the history of Indian cricket.
Significantly, in the Indore Test, Ashwin took the wickets of Peter Handscomb, Alex Carey, and Nathan Lyon while bowling in Australia’s first innings against Australia. And, with this, he surpassed the figure of former captain and lethal medium pacer Kapil Dev.
Records show that Ravichandran Ashwin has taken a total of 689 wickets in all three formats of international cricket so far. In Test cricket, he has taken 466 wickets in 171 innings of 91 matches. He has taken 151 wickets in 111 innings of 113 matches played in ODIs and 72 wickets in 65 innings of 65 matches played so far in T20Is.
Former India captain Kapil Dev took a total of 687 wickets in his career. It is also worth noting that there was no T20I cricket in the era of Haryana Hurricane Kapil Dev, otherwise the figures would have been somewhere else.
