Indira Rasoi Yojana, meal for eight rupees

Jaipur: The Rajasthan government started its ambitious Indira Rasoi Yojana on Thursday by providing food plates for eight rupees. The plan is estimated to cost Rs 100 crore annually. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot introduced the scheme through video conference. He said that Indira Rasoi Yojana is one such unique scheme in the state in which nutritious food will be provided to urban poor families at a subsidized rate.

Gehlot said that the main objective of the scheme is that no person in the state should go hungry and the benefits of the scheme reach the last person of the state and they can get food at cheaper rates. Gehlot said that the scheme is being started in urban areas but if the need arises and voluntary organizations come forward, the scheme will be expanded in the towns and villages of the state. He said that there will be no shortage of funds for this scheme. Autonomous Governance Minister Shanti Dhariwal said that Chief Minister Gehlot had announced in the budget in March this year that a plan would be chalked out to ensure that no one goes to sleep in the state.

Today, on the occasion of 76th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of the country, the state government’s multi-dimensional ambitious Indira Rasoi Yojana is being launched. He informed that under Indira Rasoi Yojana, one beneficiary will be provided pure and fresh food for 8 rupees. The total expenditure on a plate will come to Rs 20, with the state government giving Rs 12. 358 Indira kitchens will be operated in 213 municipal bodies of the state. The target is to benefit 1.34 lakh persons daily and 4.87 crore people per year under the scheme. About 100 crore rupees are estimated to be spent annually on the scheme.
