Ajmer: Relentless monsoon rains since late Thursday night have thrown life out of gear in Rajasthan’s historic Ajmer city, with the main Ajmer railway station resembling a waterlogged lake by Friday morning. The deluge submerged the entire station complex platforms, tracks, and waiting halls turning routine travel into an ordeal for hundreds of passengers.

Railway Station Under Water: Passengers Bear the Brunt

By dawn, rainwater had overflowed into all corners of the Ajmer railway station. Platforms were ankle to knee-deep in water, tracks were barely visible, and waiting rooms were inundated, leaving travelers with no dry relief. Many passengers, caught off-guard by the overnight downpour and lacking umbrellas or raincoats, were seen huddling in groups or carrying children and luggage above the floodwater in search of safer spots.
“It’s like we’re standing on the edge of a lake, not a railway station,” said one frustrated commuter.

Train Services Disrupted, Chaos at Station

The waterlogging didn’t just strand passengers it also threw train schedules into disarray. Several trains had to be diverted to different platforms, while others were delayed for hours. The railway administration issued ongoing loudspeaker announcements urging “passengers please pay attention” but many travelers vented their frustration at the lack of clear guidance and shelter, especially as the rain continued unabated.

Recurring Annual Nightmare, No Permanent Solution

Residents and commuters are once again criticizing the authorities for failing to find a long-term solution to Ajmer railway station’s perpetual monsoon woes. Despite repeated complaints and the station’s importance as a key city hub, effective drainage and flood-control measures remain lacking.
“This problem happens every year,” said a local shopkeeper. “The administration announces plans but the reality hardly changes.”

Growing Demand for Action: Fix Waterlogging Now

Faced with another year of chaos, passengers and local residents are urging city and rail officials to treat the waterlogging crisis as an urgent priority. They have called for the installation of better drainage systems and more robust infrastructure, warning that otherwise the reputation of Ajmer a city with deep historical and religious significance will continue to suffer, to the detriment of tourism and daily life.
