Quad will work as a ‘force for the good of the world’, will ensure peace in Indo-Pacific: PM Modi

Washington: Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his Australian and Japanese counterparts on Friday attended the first in-person summit of the Quad leaders which was hosted by US President Joe Biden here. During this, Modi said that he has full faith that this group of four countries will act as a force for the good of the world and will ensure peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region as well as in the whole world.

The Quad was formed in November 2017 as part of a strategy to keep the Indo-Pacific region free from any influence which includes India, the US, Japan, and Australia. Prime Minister Modi, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga have gathered at the White House to attend the first direct Quad summit at the invitation of President Joe Biden. In his opening address, Joe Biden said that the world’s four democracies have come together to tackle common climate-related challenges from Covid.

“There are democratic partners in this group who share global views and have a common vision for the future,” Biden said. In his brief address, Prime Minister Modi said during the conference, “I am confident that with our cooperation, peace and prosperity will come to the world and the Indo-Pacific region. I firmly believe that our Quad alliance will serve as a force for the betterment of the world.”

“Today, after the 2004 tsunami in Japan, as the world fights against COVID-19, we have once again come together for humanity as part of the Quad Alliance,” Modi said.

“Our quad vaccine initiative will help countries in the Indo-Pacific region at large,” he said. Prime Minister Modi said that the Quad has decided to move forward with a positive outlook based on the shared democratic values ​​of the member countries.

“I would be happy to discuss it with my friends – whether it is the supply chain, global security, climate action, tackling COVID, or technology cooperation,” he said.

Morrison said the Indo-Pacific region should be free from any bullying and disputes should be resolved in accordance with international law.
