New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday announced a partial military mobilization in Russia. Putin made the announcement after nearly seven months of the war in Ukraine.
Putin addressed the nation after announcing plans to hold elections in Russian-controlled regions of eastern and southern Ukraine to become an integral part of Russia. After capturing these four places, the path of war has been paved for Moscow.
Russia’s RT quoted Putin as saying, “The West has crossed the border. The West is calling for Russia to be weakened, divided, and destroyed. Support compatriots to determine their future. Special operation targets unchanged – LPR completely free, DPR partially,”
The referendum has been expected since the early months of the war. Will start on Friday in Luhansk, Kherson, and partly in the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhya and Donetsk regions. Putin said he has signed a decree on partial mobilization, which is due to start on Wednesday.
Putin insisted, “We are talking about partial mobilization, that is, only those citizens who are currently in reserve will be subject to enlistment, and above all, those who have served in the armed forces have a certain Military specialty and relevant experience.”
Putin signed a decree on partial mobilization, saying he was protecting Russian territories and that the West wanted to destroy the country. In a televised address, Putin said his aim was to “liberate” the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, and that most people in the region did not want to return to Ukraine’s “yoke”.
