Chandigarh: Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday urged the central government to evacuate all Indians, including 200 Sikhs, trapped in a gurdwara in Afghanistan and said that his government is willing to provide all help in this regard.

President Ashraf Ghani left the country on Sunday shortly before the Taliban took control of the Afghan capital, Kabul, leaving the country’s future uncertain. “I urge External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to make immediate arrangements for the evacuation of all Indians, including 200 Sikhs, trapped in a Gurdwara after the Taliban took over Afghanistan,” the Punjab Chief Minister tweeted. My government is willing to provide any help for the safe evacuation of Indians.”

The Chief Minister had said on Sunday that there is a need for more surveillance on all the borders of the country. He had said that Afghanistan falling into the hands of the Taliban is not good for India. Singh had tweeted on Sunday, “Afghanistan falling into the hands of the Taliban is not good for our country. Will further strengthen the China-Pakistan alliance against India. (China has already sought the help of the militia in the Uighur case.) These signs are not good. We need to be more vigilant on our borders now.”

Earlier on Saturday, the Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee had urged the central government to make arrangements to bring back those Sikhs living in Afghanistan who want to come back to India.
