Protests across the country against Netanyahu

Tel Aviv: Tens of thousands of people demonstrated in different parts of the country to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, surrounded by corruption charges. The protesters allege that Netanyahu has failed to deal with the Coronavirus epidemic properly. Protesters gathered at hundreds of different places across the country on Saturday evening. Outside of Netanyahu’s official residence in Jerusalem, where demonstrations are usually held, demonstrations are not permitted due to the lockdown in the country. According to the lockdown rules, people can perform only within one kilometer of their homes.

The biggest demonstration took place at Habima Square in Tel Aviv, where thousands of protesters gathered. Some people were holding banners that read, “Bibi (Netanyahu is also called by this name in the country) you are destroying my future. There were clashes between police and protesters in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.”

There are cases of fraud, betrayal and bribery against Netanyahu. The protesters protest against him every weekend for the past four months and demand his resignation. Netanyahu has dismissed the allegations, calling the protesters ‘leftist’. The ongoing cases against Netanyahu, the government’s failure to deal with the Covid-19 epidemic and the faltering economy have put pressure on his government.
