LONDON: Britain’s Prince Andrew, implicated in a sexual assault case, has agreed to pay $ 1.6 million in a settlement reached outside court by the aggrieved parties. This information was given in media reports on Wednesday quoting sources related to the royal family.
Prince Andrew reached an out-of-court settlement with Virginia Giuffre after Giuffre accused Prince of sexually assaulting her when she was 17. It is expected that both parties will resolve the matter within 30 days. In addition, Prince Andrew will pay a substantial amount to an organization to help victims of violence. Of this, only £2 million will be given to the organization, and the remaining £10 million ($16 million) will go to Giuffre personally, according to the local newspaper Mirror Newspaper.
The newspaper, citing sources, said Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles had put considerable pressure on Prince Andrew to settle the matter so that the dispute would not affect the Queen’s 70th-anniversary celebrations. Despite the deal, Prince Andrew is still reportedly claiming innocence and is attempting to return to public life.
Prince Andrew was accused by Giuffre, 38, and his lawyer of allegedly sexually assaulting her when she was 17. Griffey is an American-Australian activist.
