New Delhi: The prices of CNG and pipeline domestic cooking gas (PNG) in Delhi were cut by up to Rs 6 on Saturday. This is the first reduction in gas prices in almost two years. The government had implemented a new formula for determining the price of natural gas a day earlier. After that decision, the prices of CNG and PNG have come down in the national capital.
Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), a firm that retails CNG and pipeline gas in Delhi, said in a tweet that the price of CNG in the National Capital Territory (NCT) has come down from Rs 79.56 per kg to Rs 73.59 per kg. Similarly, the price of piped domestic LPG in Delhi has come down from Rs 53.59 per standard cubic meter (SCM) to Rs 48.59 per SCM, according to IGL. The new prices will be applicable from April 9.
After the reduction in natural gas prices, CNG will cost Rs 79 instead of Rs 87 and PNG will cost Rs 49 per kg instead of Rs 54 in Mumbai. Similarly, PNG will now cost Rs 47.40 per SCM in Gurugram, Rewari, Karnal, and Kaithal, while the price of PNG in Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, and Shamli will be Rs 51.97 per thousand cubic meters.
At the same time, the price of PNG in Kanpur, Fatehpur, and Hamirpur has gone up to Rs 51.10 per SCM. On the other hand, in Rajasthan’s Ajmer, Pali and Rajsamand, people will now have to spend Rs 54.23 per SCM of PNG.

Data compiled by PTI shows that the cut comes after an almost 50 percent increase in gas prices in two years. CNG prices were increased 15 times between April 2021 and December 2022. After April 2021, CNG prices have increased by Rs 36.16 per kg (83 percent).
CNG’s price was last increased on December 17, 2022. Similarly, the price of PNG was increased 10 times between August 7, 2021, and October 8, 2022. Its prices increased by Rs 24.09 per SCM i.e. 81 percent. IGL said that the retail prices of CNG and PNG in Delhi are the lowest in the country. Natural gas is converted into CNG for running motor vehicles, while it is converted into domestic cooking gas for cooking.
