London: Prime Minister Boris Johnson is considering implementing a lockdown in the country for a month in view of the increase in cases of Covid-19 in Britain. According to government sources, the announcement may be made on Monday.
Johnson met with senior cabinet colleagues on Friday to discuss the issue of increasing the number of Covid-19 cases and imposing sanctions in light of the growing number of patients in the hospital.
According to The Times, under the new restrictions, everything except essential goods shops and educational institutions can be closed. According to the news, the possible bans may remain in force till Christmas in December.
It is believed that no final decision has been taken yet and measures are likely to be taken at the regional level under the three-phase lockdown currently applicable at the local level.
UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak, Health Minister Matt Hancock, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Michael Gove were present at the meeting. The Prime Minister’s official residence cum office at 10 Downing Street is yet to respond to reports that Johnson may hold a press conference on Monday to announce the new sanctions.
