New Delhi: The graph of petrol and diesel prices continues to climb (Petrol-Diesel Price Hike). Oil companies have increased petrol prices for the second time in three days. Whereas, this is the fifth time in seven days when diesel prices have increased. Even after the reduction in the price of crude oil affecting the oil prices, it took a long time for the fuel prices to come down. On the contrary, only three days after the increase in crude prices, petrol became expensive again. The Center has also increased the prices of natural gas by 62 percent on Thursday.
In terms of statistics, the most expensive petrol is being sold in Madhya Pradesh (Rs 113.28 per liter in Seoni) and Rajasthan (Rs 113.01 per liter in Sri Ganganagar). However, there are few such states where a per liter of petrol in major cities is running under hundreds. These include the names of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chandigarh, Haryana, Gujarat, Himachal, and Andhra Pradesh. Prices vary from state to state based on local taxes. At present, the lowest price of petrol in Andhra Pradesh is Rs 87.24 per liter.
Crude connection to inflation
Crude oil prices were down by $4 a barrel between July and August. After this, it took 50 days for the price of petrol to come down by 65 paise per liter. Whereas now an increase is being recorded in the prices of crude oil, then petrol has increased by 45 paise per liter in three days. Petrol became cheaper four times after the reduction in crude oil prices from July 17 to September 5, but during this period the price remained more than Rs 100 per liter in many states.
Prices were at record levels on Thursday
After increasing the prices of petrol and diesel by 25 paise and 30 paise per liter respectively, their prices had reached near-record levels across the country on Thursday. According to the price notification of the government-owned retail fuel vendors, the price of petrol had gone up to Rs 101.64 per liter in Delhi and Rs 107.71 per liter in Mumbai. At the same time, the price of diesel was increased to Rs 89.87 in Delhi and Rs 97.52 per liter in Mumbai.
